On Saturday 30 December 2023 at 17:10, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Thembisa Precinct Officers, arrested an intoxicated 29-year-old male driver and his bakkie, was confiscated.

During the crime prevention operation in the Sedibeng section, on Letsiakarani Street, Officers noticed and stopped an approaching Hyundai H100 light delivery vehicle (LDV), which was driving erratically, with one occupant. As the 29-year-old driver stopped, he alighted from the vehicle and tried to flee on foot, leaving the bakkie behind. The seemingly tipsy motorist, couldn’t outrun Officers, and he was cornered swiftly. The breathalyser examination was conducted, and the result was that he had had one too many.

The handcuffed suspect, facing charges of ‘driving while under the influence of alcohol’ was taken to the Thembisa South police station, and the registered nurse was summoned, to draw blood samples from the driver, since the level of alcohol, was more than the legal limit in his body. His H100 LDV was impounded at the EMPD Precinct, and he is expected to appear at the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.

Motorists are advised not to drink and drive as such actions, could affect one’s judgement.
