The Commercial Transport Academy (CTA), a multi accredited and internationally recognised academy with a focus on women upliftment, is launching an exciting transport and logistics programme in South Africa for transport related businesses. The programme is supported by the United States Agency USAID, in collaboration with the CTA and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

The objective of the programme is to inspire women to lead in the transportation sector, by providing solutions to improve their knowledge through learning new skills, and advance their management and leadership abilities, with the ultimate goal of them remaining in the sector. Women completing the Candidacy Programme will earn a qualification which is recognised worldwide.

We would like to extend an invitation to your organisation to enrol two women in junior or middle management positions onto the eight-month Candidacy Programme accredited by global body the CILT. Forty-four employed women will be trained during phase one of the programme.

Women inspiring women to lead in transport – the CTA – is a level 2 B-BBEE, 51% black female owned, 100% female operated organisation based in Johannesburg.

Successful learners will be awarded the CILT International Diploma in Logistics and Transport by UK-based professional body CILT International.

Who will benefit?

One hundred and twenty women will be selected from industry for the Programme, which will be rolled out over three years. It is aimed at females who have at least 4 years and above work experience in logistics, transport, supply chain and/or warehousing. Please see the minimum qualifying criteria for applicants below.

Professional recognition

The Candidacy Programme, developed by CILT International, is an NQF 5 Certificate (SA) and Level 3 Diploma (UK). Programme graduates will be encouraged and assisted to apply for the international professional designation, Member (MILT).

Programme delivery

This Candidacy Programme is an e-learning programme that incorporates a mentorship aspect. The mentors have been carefully selected and are skilled members of industry and/or subject matter experts.  The Programme is modular based, requiring the completion of four modules over a period of eight months. Each module has quizzes, tasks and an assignment. The candidates are required to pass all four modules to qualify.


The programme will commence on the 1 June 2021.  Graduation dates to be confirmed.

Minimum qualifying criteria for applicants

  • Female.
  • Matric
  • South African citizen.
  • Currently employed in a junior and middle management role in logistics, transport, supply chain and/or warehousing/operations role, with a minimum of 4 years working experience.
  • Motivation or endorsement from your organisation.


Employer Commitments


The total cost of the Programme is R42 000, employers will be responsible for a contribution of R8 000 (eight thousand Rand) towards the total cost of the Programme.  Employees based outside of Johannesburg should be sponsored a return flight to attend their graduation by their employer.

Mentoring and Work-based Experience

A key element of the success of this programme is that learners receive in-house mentoring, in order to achieve their training objectives. As part of these objectives, access to internal information which leads to the final project of the programme will be key. Organisations are encouraged to support and work with the mentors and the employee participating in the professional qualification programme.
