Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie has commended the multi-disciplinary operation of the police for uncovering Illicit goods to the estimated value of over R12 million.

This happened during an operation that was conducted at Rocky’s Drift near White River, outside Mbombela on Friday, 7 March 2025.

The team consist of members from various police units, South African Revenue Service

(SARS), and South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA).

The sting operation was carried out after information was gathered about illicit goods that were stored in various units in the area hence the operation was executed subsequent to the obtained search warrant for 17 units.

During the operation various items were found, including suspected green stones, cosmetic products, food items and fireworks among others.

Though the owners of the storage facilities were not found during the search, the operation was conducted in the presence of the security personnel. The items were seized as part of the investigation by the police.

MEC Macie commended the outstanding work done by the law enforcement agencies.

He says the police and other stakeholders are working hard to reduce crime as part of building safer communities.

“The police should continue to work hard to close markets for illicit goods because such goods destroy the economy. They also pose danger to health and wellness of communities,” says the MEC.

He further called on members of the public not to support any illegal trading but to instead report culprits to the police.
