In order to curb illegal mining related crimes in Mpumalanga, illegal mining equipment that were confiscated around Pilgrim’s Rest area, were transported to a scrap yard in White River on Thursday, 22 May 2025.
The equipment was recovered during disruptive and intelligence driven Vala Umgodi operations.
This equipment was confiscated during the arrest of the illegal immigrants at Majax informal settlement and at Dukes old mining shaft in Pilgrim’s rest.
The equipment includes phendukas, gas cylinders, oxygen cylinders, generators, water pumps, motors, and other illicit mining equipment.
