
A hijacked white Mitsubishi Fuso truck that was transporting high value goods was recovered by Reaction Officers in Oakford – KZN.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance from Tracker SA at approximately 10:56 requesting assistance to recover the vehicle and goods with an estimated value of R1 million. Reaction Officers were provided with GPS co-ordinates for the truck. No other details were provided.
RUSA Members immediately mobilised and proceeded in the direction of Oakford – KZN. On arrival at the co-ordinates, Officers noticed the truck and a male standing at the rear doors. First Responders tactically approached the vehicle and confirmed that the male was the driver. Some boxes containing valuables were recovered in a bush next to the truck.
He explained that he was hijacked in Cornubia – KZN by the occupants of a Toyota Corolla and a bakkie. They forced him to drive the truck that was loaded to an isolated location where they were joined by two more bakkies.
The suspects loaded boxes containing laptops, takkies, cigarettes and cellphones into their getaway vehicles before they sped off in an unknown direction. During questioning, Reaction Officers established that the driver was still in possession of his cellphone and wallet. His assistant was located at a service station approximately 5 kilometres away.
A large quantity of the goods were still in the truck.
