While on duty, members of the Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT Northern Corridor together with Tshenolo PI, Road Rail Police Unit, Violent and Serious Crimes Unit and Squad Tracker, received information about a truck hijacked on the N1 road. The truck was transporting 30 tons of peanuts with a trading value of R800,000. The stolen trailer, along with the stock of peanuts, had been unhooked from the hijacked truck and attached to another truck belonging to the suspect.
The hijacked truck was later recovered in Germiston without the stock. Following further investigations, the team raided a plot in Pretoria West where they found the truck, the stolen trailer, and the stock. Additionally, 19 cellphones, multiple vehicle license discs, and number plates registered to different vehicles were discovered.
One suspect, who is linked to multiple truck hijacking syndicates and has an outstanding international warrant of arrest from Malawi, was apprehended.
