The high-density Operation Vala Umgodi continues to enforce the zero tolerance approach to curb the scourge of illegal mining in Limpopo.

The multi-disciplinary forces comprising of the SAPS’s Tactical Response Team, Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Public Order Police and the National Intervention Unit in collaboration with the SANDF and the Department of Home Affairs continues with the high-density operations. The team recovered a side tipper truck in Sekhukhune District at Ga-Makgopa village outside Burgersfort on Saturday 18 May 2024, during the raiding of illegal mining and unlawful transportation of precious minerals.

It is reported that the team intercepted a tipper truck consisting of a head and two trailers loaded with suspected stolen chrome after the driver, an unknown male, fled on foot evaded arrest leaving the truck behind. The police confiscated the said tipper truck with the loaded chrome for further investigations.

In addition, the multi-disciplinary forces teams in the five districts, including the Border Policing Team in Beitbridge Port of Entry, arrested 46 foreign nationals in separate locations on Saturday 18 May 2024 for contravention of Immigration Act.

The suspects are expected to appear before various Magistrate’s Courts in the week facing charges of contravention of Immigration Act.
