Members of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) Head Office Pretoria and South African Revenue Services (SARS) Customs Enforcement have successfully intercepted a truck carrying alleged falsely declared goods from Durban.

On 10 April 2025, information was received by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in Pretoria about a truck alleged to be distributing counterfeit goods which were falsely declared at Custom Harbour in Durban. Members of the Hawks followed up on the information and tracked the truck from Durban until the warehouse in Johannesburg Rivonia. When the police arrived at the warehouse, they searched the truck and discovered smoking vape products. On further searching the premises the Hawks and SARS discovered different alleged counterfeit goods which are alleged to have been falsely declared at the Harbour.

The goods has been detained by Customs and will be removed for safe storage.

A 21-year-old suspect in charge of the warehouse was arrested. He will appear in court soon and charged for contravention of the Customs and Excise Act. More arrest are imminent for other Manager of the warehouse.
