MasterDrive is one of the first driver training organisations to install onboard AI dash cameras in conjunction with their electronic dashboard reporting system when training. This will provide clients with greater transparency when assessing training sessions and illuminate driving habits they may not know about.

The cameras are supplied by Optix, a provider of fleet management solutions. The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says: “The cameras are standalone devices that MasterDrive instructors use during in-car practical sessions in conjunction with the dashboard system. It is a mobile dual-lens dash camera that suctions onto the windscreen providing both an interior and exterior view.

“Footage is stored on the server and can be viewed at any time – one of the primary advantages is that beyond being a valuable coaching tool, it also is a source of reference and transparency for both candidates and their employers. It is an audio-visual medium complimenting the competency of drivers and areas in need of improvement.”

The introduction of the cameras is important for clients to better understand their dashboard results. “If a driver skips a red light, we can show fleet managers at a later stage. The cameras reinforce concerns of instructors and provide a visual illustration as well.

“Additionally, AI features are incorporated into the cameras. It detects dangerous habits such as inadequate following distances, harsh acceleration and harsh braking and sends an alert. This reinforces the results as well.”

MasterDrive is proud to be a leader in the driver training sphere. “This next step empowers driver training to take the next step into modernised and evolving needs within training needs. Almost all industries are using AI to improve efficacy and efficiency and driver training is not excluded from this revolution,” says Herbert.
