A front-end loader got stuck under an N1 bridge in Sefako Makgatho Drive (Zambezi) in the north of Pretoria on Thursday.
Police said this happened in the early afternoon and the road was still closed by 15:30.
“Part of the road between Kameelfontein/ Cullinan and Sinoville is closed and we ask motorists to avoid the area,” said Sinoville police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.
It was not immediately clear how the vehicle got stuck beneath the bridge.
“It might take some time for the vehicle to be removed without causing damage to the structure of the bridge,” Van Dyk said.
“We cannot say how long it would take for the road to be reopened.”
