The Durban Metro Police Service Strike Team Unit, together with the eThekwini Transport Authority’s (ETA) Road Safety Branch, Fire Services Directorate, Border Management Authority (BMA), and the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), conducted a freight enforcement operation earlier today along South Coast Road and Solomon Mahlangu Drive.
The multidisciplinary operation aimed to enhance road safety compliance and ensure that freight and logistics operators adhere to all legal, safety, and regulatory requirements.
During the operation, officers carried out:
● Verification of outstanding traffic fines
● Inspections of fire safety equipment and fire permits
● Checks on work permits and passports for foreign truck drivers
● Examination of vehicle roadworthiness and freight documentation
The inspection revealed 20 trucks operating with fraudulent certificates. Several vehicles were impounded, and appropriate enforcement action was taken against non-compliant operators.
This initiative forms part of the City’s ongoing Road Safety Enforcement Campaign, which seeks to promote safer roads, reduce heavy-vehicle-related incidents, and strengthen interdepartmental collaboration in law enforcement.
The Durban Metropolitan Police Service continues to work hand-in-hand with partner agencies to uphold law, safety, and accountability across all sectors of the city.
