Four people have been killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a vehicle on the R103 between the Colenso turn-off and the Tugela River Bridge this evening, August 28.
ER24, KZN EMS, RTI and SAPS are at the scene. ER24 and KZN EMS used the jaws of life to free a critically injured person trapped in one of the vehicles before transporting the patient to hospital.
Initial reports indicate six people were assessed, with one classified as critical and another as yellow.
Traffic on the R103 is heavily congested and motorists are advised to avoid the area while emergency teams work to clear the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated.
