The City of Cape Town has confirmed that a MyCiTi bus caught fire on the M5 highway, near the N2 and Berkley Road. Road users are advised to drive with caution.
Andrew Harris, the Manager of Integrated Rapid Transit Program Delivery, stated that the incident occurred on the northbound M5.
The bus driver stopped the vehicle due to an overheating engine, instructing passengers to disembark. The passengers were subsequently picked up by the following bus. However, the stationary bus then suddenly caught fire. An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
