The strategic deployment of SAPS Flying Squad members along highways and secondary routes to eradicate the influx of drugs, firearms and Illicit goods into the Western Cape, paid dividends with the confiscation of drugs with an estimated value of about R290 000 in Prince Albert in the Central Karoo.
On Tuesday, 17 June 2025 at 08:00, Central Karoo Flying Squad members conducted a vehicle checkpoint (VCP) at Prince Albert Road near the entrance to Prince Albert where a passenger bus was pulled over. The members proceeded with a search of the bus which led to the discovery of 13 boxes which contained khat. Further investigation on scene linked the consignment to a passenger on board. The members confiscated 2940 bundles of khat and subsequently arrested a 47-year-old man on a charge of dealing in drugs.
The suspect remains in police custody and will appear in court once charged.
Western Cape police management lauded the efforts of the members which led to the confiscation of the consignment.
