Five people were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in was crushed by a truck on the M25 in the vicinity of KwaMashu – KZN.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Phoenix Operations Centre received multiple calls from passing motorists reporting the incident. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene.

Firefighters were in attendance and in the process of recovering the bodies of fourpeople trapped in the wreckage of a Toyota (model unknown). A fifth individual from the vehicle was lying under a Mercedes Benz Actros.

According to a witness, the light motor vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed from KwaMashu in the direction of Avoca Hills – KZN. The driver allegedly failed to negotiate a bend and collided into a metal barrier.

The car became airborne and landed in the contra flow lane. One occupant was ejected. The vehicle was crushed by a truck and trailer that was travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries.
