On Friday afternoon, a liquor truck made a wrong move on the notorious Sonstraal Road in Paarl, known for its accident spots.
In the manoeuvring, the cargo slipped, and some crates fell out.
The truck driver got assistance from a Fidelity ADT officer, guiding the driver. Unfortunately, the beer bottles on the road, worked like magnets to many, who could not withstand the urge to take what was not theirs.
The looting started immediately and as more and more looters joined the frenzy, the truck driver could no longer move his vehicle and had to fear for his well-being.
The ADT officer had requested backup from police, but now also called the DFW crew per radio for assistance.
In minutes and with sirens blazing, multiple DFW responders were on site, protecting the driver and shielding the cargo, even though culprits had already cut the truck cover to gain entry. With control of the situation gained, luckily minutes later Drakenstein traffic officers and more Fidelity Adt officers joined the team, followed by police in numbers.
Drakenstein fire arrived to help clean up the road and in a joined effort by all, the truck was reloaded with the ( some empty) crates and back to his base.
We thank our responders for coming out in numbers. We should not yield ever for crime or injustice and stand firm.
Nobody got injured and it was shown, that fast response is the key to success and not only with fire.
