Female members deployed for the multi-disciplinary Operation Vala Umgodi, participated in Operation Basadi actions that commenced on Monday, 5 August 2024.

Teams from different departments and entities including the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), the Department of Home Affairs Immigration Services, the Departnent of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, the SAPS members from Port Nolloth, Alexander Bay and Kleinsee executed the disruptive actions.

The actions and build-up activities executed during the week included compliance inspections, vehicle check points (VCP’s), stop and searches, vehicle and footpatrols along the mining and coastal areas.

In total 9 Suspects were arrested in the Frances Baard and Namakwa districts, for contravention of the Illicit Mining Act and numerous undocumented persons detained in order to be processed and verified by the Immigration Officials.
Numerous mining implements believed to be utilised in the commission of illegal mining offences were confiscated during operations.

The female members form an integral part of the Operation Vala Umgodi team and contributes towards the successes achieved in the fight against illicit mining activities.
