This morning, Tuesday 16 May 2017, there have been reports of several crashes in the Vaal area. The mist in the area has been quite thick and is believed to have contributed to the incidents.

Below are two of the more serious collisions that Netcare 911 has attended to.

  1. Approximately 07H00, two trucks were involved in a partial head-on collision on the R82 in Sasolburg. One victim sustained moderate injuries while the other was in a very serious condition and was attended to by a Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic. His injuries were severe enough to result in him being placed on a ventilator at the scene. Both patients were transported by private ambulances to hospitals in the area for further emergency care.
  2. At approximately 09H10, two vehicles were involved in a collision on the R59 near to the Ascot on Vaal off-ramp, followed a short time later by a truck that then drove into the scene. Netcare 911 paramedics initiated an advanced life support resuscitation. However, tragically the 20 year old female driver of one of the vehicles sustained severe injuries and despite paramedics efforts to resuscitate her, she succumbed to her injuries.

This scene was attended to by several EMS services as well as the SAPS.

Although the weather is improving, motorists are encouraged to exercise caution in the area.
