It is with deep sadness that Empire Protection Service mourns the tragic passing of a tow truck operator who was well known to members of our team and who worked alongside us at numerous accident and emergency scenes.
The operator tragically lost his life following a serious single-vehicle accident on the N2 southbound, shortly before the M25 KwaMashu off-ramp, on Tuesday morning.
It is believed that he may have experienced a medical emergency before losing control of the tow truck, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unconfirmed and will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
Paramedics responded to the scene and found the driver severely entrapped within the wreckage. Sadly, despite the efforts of emergency personnel, he showed no signs of life and was declared deceased at the scene.
This loss is particularly difficult for our team as he was not simply another tow truck operator. He was a familiar face within the emergency response community, someone our members had encountered and worked alongside on numerous accident scenes.
Tow truck operators play an important and often overlooked role in keeping our roads safe. They work long and demanding hours, frequently responding to dangerous situations and assisting stranded motorists, emergency personnel and other road users.
Today, Empire Protection Service mourns the loss of a valued member of the emergency response community.
Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues and all those who knew and loved him. May God give them strength, comfort and peace during this incredibly difficult time.
May his soul rest in eternal peace. 🕊️
