A 33-year-old man was arrested on the R38 in Standerton after dagga worth approximately R200 000.00 was seized during a joint K9 Unit operation conducted on 01 June 2025.

At approximately 10:00, police received intelligence regarding a vehicle transporting dagga from Ermelo to Standerton. Officers responded swiftly and intercepted a white Toyota Hilux single cab on the R38. The vehicle was stopped and searched, leading to the discovery of 120.8 kg of compressed dagga, with an estimated street value of R200 000.

The suspect was charged with dealing in dagga and driving without a license. The vehicle, which is registered in the suspect’s name, was confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Standerton District Court today, 02 June 2025, to face the aforementioned charges.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the arrest and praised the collaborative efforts that led to the successful operation. “Working together, we can fight crime more effectively,” he said.
