A driver had to be rescued from the wreckage of his vehicle following a collision involving two trucks on the N3 Pietermaritzburg-bound carriageway near the Ashburton offramp this afternoon.
At around 2pm, Mi7 Emergency Medical Services received reports of the collision and dispatched paramedics to the scene, including the Rapid Response EMS vehicle sponsored by BMW Pietermaritzburg, part of the Supertech Group.
Mi7 paramedics treated and stabilised two other patients while Pietermaritzburg firefighters worked to extricate the trapped driver.
One lane of the N3 remains obstructed following the collision, with traffic heavily backlogged. Motorists travelling towards Pietermaritzburg are advised to approach the area with caution and expect delays.
