A multi-vehicle collision on the M4 between Ballito to Umdloti Beach – KZN resulted in one fatality and several injuries this morning (Tuesday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived on scene and established that a blue Toyota Corolla travelling from Ballito towards Umdloti Beach – KZN, lost control and veered into the oncoming lane. The vehicle collided with a silver Hyundai i10 proceeding in the opposite direction. The force of the impact caused the Hyundai i10 to spin, cross back into the other lane, and collide with a Toyota Quantum minibus. The taxi then struck an eThekwini Municipality employee engaged in roadworks at the time.
The driver of the blue Toyota Corolla was pronounced deceased at the scene after being extricated from the wreckage. Multiple passengers from the Toyota Quantum sustained moderate injuries, while the municipality employee suffered serious injuries.
Paramedics from several private ambulance services transported the injured to various hospitals for medical attention.
