The driver of a white Kia bakkie who was allegedly driving contra flow was killed in a head-on collision on Vincent Dickenson Road in Cottonlands – KZN this morning (Sunday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived on the scene at approximately 09:36. The driver of the bakkie suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased by Medics. His body is trapped in the wreckage.
It is alleged that a Mercedes Benz truck and fuel tanker was travelling towards Verulam – KZN and the bakkie was proceeding in the opposite direction when it veered into the oncoming lane. Both vehicles collided head-on. The truck jackknifed when a white Toyota Quantum taxi collided into the trailer. The tanker was loaded with approximately 21000 litres of fuel at the time of the incident. No other injuries were reported.
The road is currently closed while Emergency Personnel attends to the scene.
