A swift response and collaborative effort to combat crime concluded in the arrest of a hijacking suspect within minutes after the crime was committed.

Police were busy performing the Safer City Operation duties in the Rustenburg Central Business District (CBD) at around 09:00 on Friday, 28 February 2025. They got a lookout message for a white Toyota Dyna truck that was stolen from a Second-Hand Car Dealership in Kroondal by an unknown male. Initial information indicated that the said truck was heading to Rustenburg town.

The dealership owner was contacted and explained that he was following the truck on the R24 road to Magaliesburg direction. Members followed up assisted by both the owner and farmers. They intercepted the truck near Maanhaarand. A 42-year-old Zimbabwean national was questioned and ultimately placed under arrest after failing to account for possession of the truck.

The suspect who is legal in the country, is expected to appear soon in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court for theft and possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle.
