A joint operation executed at Waterberg District by the Modimolle K9 Dog Unit, two private securities together with the District’s Flying Squad Unit, resulted in impounding of illicit cigarettes worth more than R300 000,00 on Monday 08 December 2025.
Waterberg Flying Squad police were busy with operational duties when they received information about a white truck suspected to be transporting illicit cigarettes, while traveling along R101 public road and heading towards Modimolle precinct.
The joint multi-disciplinary operation to locate the truck, commenced and was positively spotted driven at Thabo Mbeki Drive and stopped. Police asked a 33 year-old male foreign National permission to search and he complied with their request.
While searching the truck, police found empty crates and Remington Gold cigarettes concealed inside a hidden compartment and he was asked about their origin but failed to provide a satisfactory response.
He was immediately nabbed on the spot in possession of 68 boxes with an estimated street value of R340 000.00
The suspect is expected to appear before the Modimolle Magistrate court soon, facing a charge of possession of suspected illicit cigarettes.
