Various emergency services responded to reports of a truck overturned on the N1 between Kenneth Kahunda and Nelson Mandela yesterday afternoon. On arrival it was found that a tanker carrying hazardous materials overturned, resulting in a large chemical spill. T
The driver was found close to the truck with minor injuries and was moved out of immediate danger to a waiting ambulance where he was treated before being transported to a local hospital for further care.
Spill response teams took over the scene to recover the truck and will continue with rehabilitation of the immediate surroundings in days to come. Traffic flow on the route was affected for several hours.
