Cape Town Container Terminal (CTCT) celebrated the arrival of four new hybrid straddle carriers, strengthening cargo-handling capability ahead of the peak deciduous season.

Powered by both diesel and electric technology, the new machines reduce fuel consumption and emissions while supporting efficient cargo movement across the stack. This investment reinforces CTCT’s commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, and service delivery.

The straddle carriers are expected to enter operation in July following conversion training and the installation of terminal-specific Vehicle Mounted Terminals (VMTs).

By expanding the fleet with hybrid technology, the terminal is better positioned to meet customer demand, enhance operational performance, and contribute to the long-term competitiveness of South Africa’s logistics sector.
