A bus travelling from Johannesburg to Zimbabwe was detained for overloading by traffic law enforcement officers at the Polokwane Traffic Control Centre on Sunday, 17 December 2023.
The vehicle was found to be overloaded by almost 17 00kg when weighed. The driver was fined R6 000.00 and instructed to rectify the load before being allowed to proceed with the trip.
“An overloaded vehicle is dangerous to all road users. The excessive load on this bus makes it less stable and difficult to steer. It cannot be okay for owners and drivers to put so many passengers at risk. We will continue to detain such vehicles until they comply, to make our roads safer.” – Chief Director for Transport Regulation, Jane Mulaudzi.
