IPSS Medical Rescue responded to reports of a truck that had plunged down a steep embankment near Dududu.
On arrival, paramedics found the truck almost 100m down, being held in place by two trees. Sadly, they were able to confirm that the driver of the truck was deceased.
Due to the steep embankment, instability of the truck and thick bush, the Ugu Fire Department were unable to safely extricate his body.
On Saturday afternoon, IPSS Search & Rescue, alongside SAPS Search & Rescue responded to the scene, sending a single member down to the wreckage, confirming initial reports from the Fire Department.
The decision was made to call off the recovery, returning this morning with a larger Search & Rescue team, as well as the necessary resources to secure the truck and cut away the dense bush.
IPSS Search & Rescue, SAPS Search & Rescue and Durban Metro Police Search & Rescue, worked for hours to secure to the wreckage, and gain access to the body of the driver.
His body has now been recovered, and handed over to Dududu SAPS for further investigation.
Our condolences go out to the friends and family of the deceased.
This was a massive effort, isolated and under trying conditions, with multiple agencies coming together.
