Members of the Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT (Western Corridor), and the Taxi Violence Task Team (TVTT) identified and responded to suspicious movement of illegal miners who were disrupting traffic along the R41 route into Azaadville.
Through observation, officers noticed individuals moving with bags suspected to contain gold-bearing material. The team mobilised and proceeded to the site. Upon arrival, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning their belongings.
A total of 14 bags containing gold-bearing material were recovered and confiscated on-site.
