At approximately 00:40, our control room received reports of a truck that had overturned and spilled diesel and oil on 14th Avenue, adjacent to the N1 Western Bypass.
⚠️ Our team immediately informed our Private Fire Search & Rescue team to respond to the scene. Members were notified, mobilised to the fire engine, and within minutes our Fire Engine arrived on scene to assist.
The overturned truck was transporting a massive industrial machine, which resulted in large amounts of oil and diesel spilling across the roadway. No injuries were reported.
SANRAL teams who arrived on scene supplied industrial oil absorbent sand, which was used to cover the affected roadway. After the spill was contained, our team together with multiple other responders began sweeping the road to remove the contaminated sand and debris.
🚒 Our fire crew also utilised the Fire Engine to wash down the roadway, helping clean and remove additional oil residue from the surface.
The scene took hours to clear due to the extent of the spill and clean-up operation.
