
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Anti-Overload Unit Officers, apprehended a 46-year-old Zimbabwean national suspect, found in possession of a suspected hijacked international truck, loaded with goods worth R2.7 million, in the Duduza area.
Officers received information from a tracking company, about a hijacked white international truck and trailer, sought for a case opened in Lenasia. Officers immediately acted on the information received, and coordinates led them to an address, on Sonnestraal Road in Driemanskap, where they cornered one (1) male suspect with the vehicle and trailer.
Upon questioning the suspect, who could not provide satisfactory answers, led to Officers immediately placing him under arrest. All role players were summoned to the scene for further investigation, while the handcuffed suspect was marched to Duduza police station. The vehicle was booked at the Aeroton police yard and the goods, namely female denim jeans from a well-known retailer, were handed back to the lawful owner.
The 46-year-old suspect, facing charges of ‘possession of suspected hijacked motor vehicle and possession of suspected stolen property’ is expected to appear in the Nigel Magistrate Court soon.
