On Thursday 28 May 2026 at 12h30, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention and Community Liaison Units Officers, successfully apprehended three (3) foreign nationals, who are between the ages of thirty-three (33) and forty-seven (47), for possession of reported hijacked trailers, possession of suspected stolen property, and contravention of the Immigration Act, in the Benoni area.
While conducting law enforcement duties, Officers received a tip-off regarding a suspicious articulated truck loaded with two (2) containers seen around the Petit area.
Acting swiftly on the information received, members proceeded to a plot on Pretoria Road, where they identified two (2) trailers that were reported hijacked around the Boksburg area, and observed three (3) suspects offloading tyres from the containers. Officers tactically approached and apprehended the suspects.
During the operation, Officers successfully recovered the trailers and two (2) containers loaded with tyres worth over R60 500. A Boksburg case number, was linked to the recovered property.
The three (3) suspects were arrested and detained at the Benoni Police Station, facing charges of possession of reported hijacked trailers, possession of suspected stolen property and contravention of the Immigration Act. They are expected to appear before the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
