The success of citrus exports depends heavily on reliable cold chain infrastructure, particularly within terminal operations. Across key Terminals of TPT, dedicated reefer plug points ensure that temperature-controlled containers remain powered while awaiting loading onto vessels.

During the previous citrus season, Durban Container Terminal (Pier 1) was equipped with 1440 reefer plug points, Ngqura Container Terminal with 1652, and the Port Elizabeth Container Terminal with 932. The Durban Multi-Purpose Terminal contributed a further 277 plug points, strengthening the broader cold chain network.

This robust infrastructure continues to be maintained and enhanced to meet growing export demand, supporting thousands of refrigerated containers at any given time and ensuring that citrus exports remain within strict temperature requirements throughout their journey.
