Two males, aged 19 and 44, have been arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes in Viljoensdrif.
On Thursday, 14 August 2025, at approximately 10:30, members of the Sasolburg Highway Patrol Relief A and Viljoensdrif CSC Relief C conducted a Vehicle Check Point (VCP) on the R82 near Country Butchery, Viljoensdrif.
During the operation, a white truck with Lesotho registration plates was stopped and searched. Upon inspection, police discovered boxes of illicit cigarettes concealed behind boxes of cooking oil.
A total of 400 boxes, with an estimated street value of R3.1 million, were confiscated. The suspects are expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of illicit cigarettes.
