Operation Vala Umgodi multidisciplinary team at Sekhukhune District, arrested a 34-year-old man for illegal mining of sand at Luckau Village in Hlogotlou Policing area, on Wednesday, 19 March 2025.
Police report indicates that the members were patrolling at the area, and they noticed a group of people loading sand in white Mercedes Benz truck. Upon approaching them, they dispersed into different directions. One suspect aged 34 was arrested after he failed to produce a permit to mine, and the white Mercedes Benz truck, 03x shovels, and 02 pickaxes were confiscated.
Meanwhile, in Mopani and Capricorn Districts, 05 suspects were arrested separately for contravention of immigration laws.
The suspects will appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon.
The police investigations are continuing.
