Midlands EMS Howick crews were dispatched to the N3 between Balgowan and Lions River for a truck collision.
As our emergency vehicles approached the scene, they faced heavy traffic due to vehicles stopping on the opposite bound, with individuals looting the truck’s cargo. After navigating through the traffic and turning to approach the scene, the crews encountered further delays caused by ongoing looting, which continued to obstruct traffic.
In response, a K9 security vehicle, accompanied by armed guards from Africa 911 Tactical (part of the Midlands group of companies), was rapidly deployed. Upon arrival, around 150 individuals were dispersed within 3 minutes, allowing the crews to access the scene.
The injured driver was located and found to be in serious condition, requiring urgent advanced life support treatment.
Authorities were in attendance.
