A Mercedes Benz mechanical horse and trailer caught alight on the R102 northbound lane between Phoenix and Ottawa in Kwazulu Natal.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received the call for assistance from a passing motorist who noticed a truck driver attempting to extinguish the flames.
Reaction Officers arrived on scene and found that the fire was extinguished.
The driver explained that he noticed flames & smoke emanate from the left front of the horse. He stopped the vehicle and removed the gas cylinder from the cabin before attempting to put out the fire.
Additional Reaction Officers were despatched to the high risk area known for attacks on stranded motorists.
