Six people were injured this morning after a refuse removal truck lost control and overturned on Sangster Road in Magaliessig – north of Johannesburg.
At 10:20 EMER-G-MED’s RV3, RV6, M07, A01, A02 and A03 were dispatched to the scene.
On arrival paramedics found that two of the occupants were entrapped within the truck’s cabin, with the truck resting on their lower limbs and in a critical condition. A further four people sustained minor to moderate injuries.
The entrapped patients sustained serious injuries to their lower limbs, and one sustained a head injury, both requiring immediate Advanced Life Support care. Paramedics worked to stabilise the patients, while the Lonehill Fire department used the “jaws of life” and other equipment to cut the cab, in an effort to free the injured men lasting upwards of an hour.
Once extricated the patients were immobilised and transported to Netcare Sunninghill Hospital for definitive care.
