The swift response by members of Upington Border Police led to the confiscation of a large amount of dagga which was en route to Upington on Thursday, 5 September 2024.

The members reacted to information about a Toyota bakkie that was allegedly transporting drugs. The vehicle was intercepted a few kilometres outside of Upington and after searching it, police discovered dagga with an estimated street value of R3 915 000-00 in the vehicle.

The two male occupants aged 52 and 27 respectively were arrested for dealing in dagga.

During a separate operation on the same day, Upington Border Police members responded to information about illicit cigarettes stored and sold at a wholesale store in Upington. The store was inspected and R2 035 940.00 worth of illicit cigarettes were found. The members consulted with SARS Customs Services and a raid was conducted which resulted in an Enquiry docket being registered for further investigation.
