Five people were injured this morning, two seriously, after two trucks collided head-on at the Jet Park and Main Road intersection in Jet Park, east of Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found the trucks lying in the middle of the road. Both trucks had sustained a large amount of damage and one was found lying on its side.
On inspection, paramedics found a man lying trapped inside the overturned truck. Another man was found lying ontop of the same truck. Both of these men were in a serious condition. Three other men were found walking around on the scene with minor injuries.
Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the man from the truck in a 30-minute operation.
Once freed, paramedics treated all the patients and provided both seriously injured patients with advanced life support treatment.
Once all the patients were treated, they were transported by ambulance to Thembisa and Sunshine Hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
