A truck driver was killed and 15 other people were injured in a horrific crash involving multiple vehicles and trucks on the N3 Durban-bound, just before the Mariannhill Toll Plaza on Friday evening.
ALS paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson reported that the collision involved six trucks and five vehicles.
“Emergency services arrived to find several people trapped in the wreckage. Despite the best efforts of paramedics and the Ethekwini Fire Department, one of the truck drivers was found severely entrapped in their vehicle and was declared dead at the scene,” said Jamieson.
Jamieson said according to paramedics the 15 people sustained various injuries. “Once stabilised, they were transported to several hospitals across Durban for further medical care,” he said.
The N3 was closed for several hours as emergency personnel worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the cause of the crash.
At this stage, the events leading up to the accident remain unclear, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
