On 02 December 2024, Durban Metro Police members received vital information regarding stolen goods stored at a warehouse in Isipingo. Acting swiftly, our team proceeded to the location and uncovered tons of Soda Ash packed in bags, stolen from a company near Mega City in Umlazi.
Further investigation at the scene revealed two men actively offloading Cobalt raw powder from a vehicle. Both suspects were apprehended and found to be part of a syndicate responsible for stealing the Soda Ash and Cobalt powder.
The stolen materials had not been returned to the rightful owners due to logistical delays. These raw products, critical in manufacturing copper, washing powder, and lithium batteries, were believed to be on the verge of being exported to China.
Recovered Goods:
● Approximately R4 million worth of materials.
● The suspects’ vehicle used for transporting the goods was seized.
Two suspects were arrested on-site, including an employee connected to the stolen materials. Both were charged under Section 36 and detained at Isipingo SAPS.
This recovery highlights the commitment of Durban Metro Police Service to protecting local businesses and ensuring justice is served
