Members of Thabazimbi Crime Intelligence and Waterberg Illegal Mining Combating Task Team arrested five suspects aged between 58 and 39 for possession of precious metals (Chrome) at Sebilong village, on Wednesday, 13 September 2023.
According to information, the members activated an operation after receiving information about suspect’s presence and their activities. On arrival at the said location, the Police found a truck with two trailers loaded with Chrome worth an estimated street value of about R90000-00 and also a TLB front end loader. Five suspects were then arrested and the trucks and trailers seized.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the team for arresting the suspects and ensuring a zero tolerance against illegal mining activities in the Province.
The suspects are expected to appear before Thabazimbi magistrate Court on Friday, 15 September 2023.
The police investigations are still continuing.
