
The Man Truck (pictured) with registration plates JT 35CW GP is sought after on SAPS Maydon Wharf Cas No. 501/03/2025 for Theft of Soda Ash valued at R800 000.
Two trailers with registration plates CJ.93DW GP & CJ 93DT GP are also sought after 26 tons of the Soda Ash were stolen by a fictitious sub-contracting transport company operated by an unknown Indian male. The product was taken from Maydon Wharf in Kwazulu Natal at appox. 09:30 on March 18, 2025. The drivers details were provided as Mbongeni Amos Mañana and believed to be fake. A certified copy of South African Identity Document for Manana was recovered (picture 2) and has not been verified at this stage.
Soda ash, also known as sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), is a versatile compound used in a wide range of applications, including glass manufacturing, detergents, and as a water softener, as well as in food, pharmaceutical, and metallurgical processes.
