Gauteng: Two suspects, aged 35 and 42, were arrested in Malboro minutes after a truck was hijacked and Metro Police Officer shot and wounded.

It is alleged that on Thursday, 23 February 2017, at about 11:00, a truck loaded with cellular phones was travelling on the N3/N1 free way next to Buccleuch interchange when it was stopped by a group of suspects driving in different cars.

The suspects allegedly hijacked the truck. During the hijacking , the driver of another car travelling in the same road was shot in the upper body.

Police responded swiftly to the look out of a hijacked truck and found the suspects in Malboro busy offloading the cellular phones into another truck and shootout ensued between the suspects and the police.

A metro police officer who gave a back up was shot on the upper body and taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Two suspects were arrested on the scene and other suspects fled.

The arrested suspects appear at Randburg Magistrates Court soon, facing charges of hijacking and attempted murder.
