A 35-year-old woman was left seriously injured this afternoon when a light motor vehicle crashed into a truck on the M61 in Daleside in the Vaal area.

ER24 paramedics, along with the fire services, arrived on the scene to find the truck in the left-hand lane of the road while the light motor vehicle was found on the side of the road.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the woman lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle. Assessment showed that the woman was in a serious condition.

Fire services had to use specialised rescue equipment to free the woman from the vehicle.

Once freed, paramedics treated the woman and provided her with advanced life support interventions. The woman was thereafter transported to Kopanong Provincial Hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the vehicle, a man, was assessed and found to have escaped serious injury.

Local authorities were on scene to conduct an investigation into the cause of the collision.
